General Information

The CentreGIS Public Website is designed to provide free and easy access to Centre County Data for Government Agencies. There are several search functions in this website to help you quickly identify the feature / area you are looking for. You can search via Tax ID Number, Address, or Street Name.

Instructions

To Access the site click on the Start Mapping button at the top of the screen. Below are some instructions to get you familiar with the new mapping system.

The Public Information Kiosk was designed on feedback from customers who needed an interface less complex then the Public Access Client.

Interface Layout

In this application, the entire page scrolls to allow users the most area possible for viewing their data. This allows the client to maximize the map display (1) and also use the full screen for viewing search results (2) as needed.

On the left panel are a series of collapsible control panels (3-6). These panels include instructions or information about the site, Map Tools, search tools, a legend, and Layer Visibility Panel.

The Map Tool control panel is located at the top of the left column (3). To ensure that the user does not lose track of the current map behavior, the Map Tool panel is the only left-column panel that cannot be disabled by the end user. All others can be collapsed by clicking the title.

To avoid confusion and simplify the user experience, only one utility of each type is visible at any given time. For example, when the site initially loads, the "Search This Map" panel only displays the title of each search available. Clicking on one of the titles will display the appropriate search form. Clicking a second title, however, will hide the form that was previously displayed before the new form is shown to the user. This removes any ambiguity that previously existed over the relationship between a displayed search report and the search control panels.

The "Search This Map" panel (4) contains searches on the data. In this application you will find a search by Address, Street Name, Tax ID Number.

The Map Legend (5) is not displayed by default immediately, and it is located below the "Search This Map" panel. It can be hidden by clicking the title link.

The Layer Visibility control panel (6) is hidden by default in the Public Information Kiosk application and is named "Customize This Map".

The Map Tab (7) buttons change the visible layers based on a predefined group. This allows the user to quickly change the type of map they want to produce without having to manually turn on / off layers.

Map Tools Toolbar
